What is an eleke or ileke?
Elekes or sometimes referred to as Ileke are sacred beads strung together in the form of a necklace. There are many different color combinations which represent an orisha (saint) or deity.
These elekes are blessed by those authorized to do so. That would generally be a Babalawo Ifa priest or Olorisha Osha priest. The blessing of elekes occurs through the process of sacred ceremonies. Elekes provide spiritual protection for the person that wears them.
