Each Odu will have ese Ifa (verses) that speak to the teachings of the odu. The concept of ese Ifa is similar to the concept of verses in the Catholic Bible.

There isn’t just one book from which you can learn about all the ese Ifa which is why learning the true secrets, wisdom and knowledge of Ifa can be elusive. We strive to publish as much helpful information about Ifa in this website. It takes a Babalawo or Iyanifa many years of study and practice to create a solid understanding of Ifa teachings.
During the process of Ifa divination, one of the 256 odu will be revealed to the person seeking advice and guidance. While everyone can learn from each of the 256 odu Ifa, a specific odu is revealed during divination that will apply to the person’s or communities’ specific situation. This process is performed by a trained Ifa priest or Ifa priestess.

This includes the prescriptions of the appropriate sacrifice for each situation.
